C. Greg Cauthen, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Cauthen graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2002, and completed his internship and residency at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Cauthen received his fellowship training at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Cauthen is Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

One of the founding partners of Midlands Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, Dr. Cauthen serves as the Medical Director of the SC Chest Tumor Consortium. He also serves as the Medical Director of Critical Care at Providence Hospitals and is the Medical Director of InterMedical Hospital of South Carolina.

Dr. C. David Perry

C. David Perry, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Perry graduated from medical school in 2002 from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Perry is Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

Dr. Perry is one of the founding partners of Midlands Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Providence Hospitals.

Dr. Laura B. Herpel

Laura B. Herpel, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Herpel graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1999. She completed her internship, residency and fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Herpel is Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

Prior to joining Midlands Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine in 2011, Dr. Herpel served as an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC, and as the Interim Medical Director of the MUSC Sleep Center. Dr. Herpel currently serves as the Medical Director of the Providence Hospitals Sleep Labs.

W. Shawn Ghent, M.D., FCCP

Dr. Ghent graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1988. His internship, residency and fellowship training was completed at Richland Memorial and William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. Dr. Ghent is Board certified in pulmonary medicine.

Prior to joining Midlands Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine in 2013, Dr. Ghent served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of South Carolina. He was also a staff physician at the WJB Dorn VA, and also served as a physician at Columbia Pulmonary and Critical Care.
